The Memorial

Gov. Gen. David Johnston honoured the nation’s firefighters, thanking them for their willingness to go “the wrong way” into danger for the benefit of their communities, and praised their “courage and dedication.” He delivered his remarks at the unveiling of the new Canadian Firefighters Memorial in Ottawa, a monument intended to pay tribute to nearly 1,100 Canadian Firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

The newly built Canadian Firefighters Memorial sits at the corner of Wellington and Lett Streets, near a commemorative wall listing the names of firefighters who died while serving their communities. It was an honour to be a part of this.
